Is Bison & Blade the same business as Marshall Heritage & History?

Bison & Blade is a DBA of Marshall Heritage & History, LLC.

Bison & Blade is the primary public-facing workshop for leather, blade, and handcrafted work, while Marshall Heritage & History remains the heritage research and documentation side of the business.

Do you have a storefront?

Not at this time.

Bison & Blade operates from a private workshop in Lewisville and works primarily through scheduled drop-off and pickup.

What area do you serve?

I’m based in Lewisville and primarily serve Lewisville, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Denton, and the surrounding DFW area.

How do I get started?

Send me a message with a brief description of what you have in mind and, whenever possible, a few clear photographs.

I’ll take a look, let you know whether the project is a good fit, and recommend the next step.

Will I know the price before work begins?

Yes.

You’ll know the expected scope and price before I begin. Larger, unusual, or restoration-heavy projects may require an in-person inspection before I can provide a final estimate.

How do I pay?

Payments are processed and recorded through Square, providing both you and Bison & Blade with a clear transaction record and receipt.

How long will my project take?

Turnaround depends on the type of work and the condition of the item.

Routine services may be completed fairly quickly, while restoration, custom leatherwork, and heritage projects can take longer. I’ll give you an expected timeline before work begins.

Workshop Services

Leather, steel, and handcrafted goods are the heart of the Bison & Blade workshop. Here are a few things to know before bringing something in.

What leather items do you work on?

My primary focus is boots, shoes, belts, bags, briefcases, wallets, sheaths, cases, and other practical leather goods.

If you’re unsure about an item, send me a photo and I’ll take a look.

What’s the difference between cleaning, conditioning, and restoration?

Cleaning removes dirt, buildup, and surface contaminants. Conditioning helps replenish oils and moisture the leather has lost over time.

Restoration goes further and may address significant dryness, discoloration, neglect, oxidation, or other age-related issues.

Not every item needs restoration. If routine care is enough, I’ll tell you.

Can every leather item be restored?

No.

Leather is a natural material, and age, damage, previous treatments, coatings, and construction all affect what can safely be done.

My goal is to improve and preserve an item without promising results the material cannot support.

Do you repair soles, replace zippers, or perform structural shoe repair?

Not typically.

Bison & Blade focuses on leather care, reconditioning, and restoration rather than traditional cobbler work such as resoling, heel replacement, or major structural reconstruction.

If your project needs a different specialist, I’ll tell you.

What kinds of blades do you service?

I work with many pocket and EDC knives, hunting and field knives, kitchen knives, and other working blades.

If you have something unusual, send me a photo for an assessment.

Do you restore old or heirloom knives?

Yes, depending on the condition of the piece.

Work may include careful cleaning, rust mitigation, lubrication, polishing, edge restoration, and general maintenance.

Structural repairs, replacement parts, or warranty work may need to be handled by the manufacturer or another specialist.

Will sharpening remove a lot of metal?

No.

The goal is to restore an effective edge while removing only the amount of steel necessary to do the job properly.

Do you sharpen serrated blades?

Some serrated blades can be serviced depending on their design and condition.

Send me a clear photo and I’ll let you know what I can do.

Do you make custom leather goods?

Yes—selectively.

I take on practical leather projects that fit the capabilities and schedule of the workshop, along with small-batch Bison & Blade goods such as cases, covers, trays, EDC accessories, and other useful pieces.

Can you personalize leather goods?

Depending on the project, personalization may include initials, names, dates, logos, engraving, leather and thread choices, or other details.

Can you work on something sentimental or irreplaceable?

Yes, and those pieces are approached with additional care.

Heirloom and sentimental items may require more documentation and assessment before work begins because preservation—not aggressive cosmetic perfection—is usually the priority.

Will my old item look brand new?

Usually, that isn’t the goal.

Honest wear, patina, and age can be part of what makes an object yours. My goal is to clean, stabilize, restore usefulness, and improve its appearance without unnecessarily erasing that character.

Heritage & History Services

Sometimes the story matters as much as the object.

Through Marshall Heritage & History, I continue to accept a limited number of projects focused on preserving family stories, documenting meaningful heirlooms, and recording the history of businesses and organizations.

What is Marshall Heritage & History?

Marshall Heritage & History is the heritage research and documentation side of the business.

While Bison & Blade focuses primarily on craftsmanship, care, and restoration, this work focuses on preserving the people, objects, and stories connected to them.

What kinds of heritage projects do you offer?

Projects generally fall into three areas:

Family Legacy Projects
Preserving family stories, traditions, values, photographs, records, interviews, genealogy, and historical context.

Heirloom Research & Documentation
Researching and documenting the history and provenance of meaningful family objects.

Business Heritage & Legacy
Preserving the founding story, milestones, traditions, people, and history of family-owned or long-standing businesses.

Is this the same as genealogy?

Not exactly.

Genealogy may be part of the research, but the work goes beyond names and dates.

I’m also interested in the stories, places, traditions, objects, values, and historical context that help explain who those people were and why their story matters.

What kinds of heirlooms can you research?

Examples include family Bibles, photographs, letters, journals, military memorabilia, knives, tools, documents, business records, and other meaningful possessions.

Do you appraise or authenticate antiques?

No.

Marshall Heritage & History provides historical research and documentation, not monetary appraisal, legal authentication, or certification of authenticity.

How much does a heritage project cost?

Because every research project is different, heritage services are priced by project scope rather than a public hourly rate.

We’ll begin with a conversation about your goals. If the project is a good fit, you’ll receive a written proposal outlining the scope, expected timeline, and investment before work begins.

How do you handle private family information?

Privacy and stewardship are fundamental to this work.

Personal records, photographs, interviews, family information, and other sensitive materials are treated as private client information and are not shared publicly without permission.

Can Bison & Blade restoration and Marshall Heritage & History work together?

Absolutely. In fact, that combination is one of the more distinctive services I can offer.

If I’m restoring a meaningful family knife, leather item, tool, or other heirloom, historical research and documentation can sometimes be added so the story is preserved alongside the object itself.

Didn’t Find Your Answer?

Every project is a little different.

Have a pair of boots that needs attention, a blade that needs an edge, a leather project in mind, or a story worth preserving?

Tell me what you’ve got.

Send me a message and, when appropriate, a few photos. I’ll personally take a look and recommend the next step.

If I can help, I’ll tell you how. If I’m not the right person for the job, I’ll tell you that too.

The workshop is open. Let’s get to work.
